Our History

History of Keene Terrace Baptist Church

On its second anniversary as a mission of Skycrest Baptist Church, the Keene Terrace Baptist Chapel, located on McMullen Road and Lake Avenue, Largo, became a full fledged church at an organization service held in the newly-erected church building on July 12, 1964.

The Missions Committee, under the chairmanship of Paul Connor purchased the present church site in February 1962. The first service was held on July 12, 1962 in a frame house nearby with 42 present for the first Sunday School and approximately 70 for the first worship service. With rapid growth, another building was rented.

Reverend Kenneth H. Watkins, a graduate of Golden Gate Seminary in California began as pastor in October 1962. Under his guidance and leadership, there became increasing need for a new church building. An architect was hired and ground was broken for the new structure on June 23, 1963. Four months later, the first service was held in the new building and dedications ceremonies were held on November 24, eleven months from the start of mission.

Since Reverend Gary Rucker came to KTBC in 1988, we have enjoyed a time of steady spiritual growth within the fellowship as we have continued to see the Lord lead more and more to salvation. Vince Degani leads our life-changing youth ministry. Our Music Ministry is led by Giorgio Aristo.

We are blessed that our church is highly involved with our community and pray that God continues to bless our church family by bringing more into His presence.
